A Reflection for International Women’s Day

Peace is often imagined as something negotiated in grand halls, signed onto papers, or declared by leaders.

But peace rarely begins there.

More often, it begins in the quiet spaces of daily life — in kitchens, gardens, classrooms, and conversations between neighbours. It begins in the choices we make to listen, to care, to remain open when it would be easier to turn away.

Across the world, women have long carried a deep and steady role in this work of peace. Not because it belongs to them alone, but because so many women have chosen to nurture connection where division might otherwise grow.

They gather families around tables.

They hold communities together in times of uncertainty.

They teach children compassion and courage.

They create circles where people can speak honestly and be heard.

These acts may appear small, but they are powerful. They shape the culture of our homes, our communities, and ultimately our world.

Peace does not grow only through large gestures.

It grows through relationship.

And relationship is something women have been cultivating quietly for generations.

On International Women’s Day, we pause to recognize these contributions. Not as something separate from the work of humanity, but as an essential thread within it.

The truth is, the work of peace belongs to all of us.

But when we look closely, we often see the steady presence of women helping to guide it — through patience, empathy, creativity, and resilience.

Women plant seeds of possibility.

They hold space for healing.

They remind us that strength and tenderness can live side by side.

And yet, the contributions of women are still too often overlooked or taken for granted.

Today is a moment to celebrate those contributions.

But it is also a gentle reminder that honouring women should not happen only once a year.

When the voices of women are heard, communities become stronger.

When the wisdom of women is welcomed, decisions become more compassionate.

When women are supported in their leadership, creativity, and care for the world around them, peace becomes more possible.

The invitation of this day is simple.

Celebrate the women in your life.

Listen to their stories.

Support their visions.

Make space for their leadership and creativity to flourish.

And remember that the work of peace grows strongest when we walk it together.

At Metamorphosis GCA, we believe transformation begins in relationship — with ourselves, with each other, and with the natural world that holds us.

So today we celebrate the women who help weave those relationships every day.

And tomorrow, we continue the work together.

Because peace is not created in a single day.

It is grown — patiently, collectively, and with care.
